Many cards up his sleeve. When you meet Marcel, you see a two-metre guy with a welcoming smile and a keen sense of humour. Then you learn he works as an e-learning consultant for Avetica. Then you find out he is also involved in a protestant community. Soon, you will learn that he has just gone to a far away country for a work project. But the most surprising thing is that Marcel’s true passion has been drawing and painting. Swiped by a lot of activities, Marcel’s interest and motivation to develop his skills has been renewed when he met Hakan. Now you can see the results of a man following his dream.
“The idea to have an exhibition about Turkish – Dutch relationships immediately made me excited. It’s a time where you see in The Netherlands a polarisation of political and religious positions. For me personally these topics have little weight. It makes me happy when positive and constructive communication and friendships across barriers which separate us are surpassed. The Dutch word ‘verbinding’ describes perfectly what we want to achieve with the exhibition. Verbinding means ‘having a bond, connect, contact, relationship’; I hope we will be able to generate attention to the public of Amsterdam. In this helping to create at both the Dutch als the Turkish side a positive contribution to ‘verbinding’.”
